Jamf says Apple ‘gaining momentum’ in enterprise – yet other figures say different

A new report from mobility management provider Jamf argues that Mac and iOS devices are ‘easier to manage’ than their PC, Chromebook and Android brethren, ramping up Apple adoption in business and education.

The report, which took responses from approximately 300 commercial businesses, 300 K-12 educational establishments, as well as 300 higher education IT professionals and executives from a variety of organisations, also found that 90% of K-12 schools use iOS devices of some description, while 99% of enterprise respondents have iOS devices in use, with more than nine in 10 having Macs.

Jamf adds that Macs are either easier or as easy to manage than PCs on security – cited by 66% of respondents – support (63%), deployment (62%), device configuration (58%) and software and app deployment (57%).

“Not only is Apple gaining momentum in the enterprise due to user preference, but IT is finding that with the right mobile device management solution, Mac, iPhone and iPad are easier to manage and enable a better overall experience for users,” said Dave Alampi, Jamf VP product management and marketing in a statement.

The report’s findings, for those who are aware with Jamf, may not come as a huge shock. The company’s focus is purely Apple-based, as this publication pointed out with similar survey findings in April last year, describing them as ‘not entirely surprising’.

What’s more, other research may put these findings into question. Surveying IT buyers and technology decision makers at the end of last year, CCS Insight said Apple has had its lead dramatically cut by Microsoft “propelled by a big year in security, cloud, productivity apps and the positivity surrounding Windows 10.” Whereas in 2016 48% of the 400 respondents said Apple was the dominant brand, it’s now 35%, with Microsoft level having been on 34% the previous year.
